Why mark the queens?
The marking allows follow the evolution of the colony and to ensure that the Queen is still in place. One International colour code facilitates the identification of his year of birth:
🔵 Blue years ending 0 or 5
⚪ White years ending 1 or 6
🟡 Yellow years ending 2 or 7
🔴 Red years ending 3 or 8
🟢 Green years ending 4 or 9
It is also possible to use a Numbered to identify the queen's lineage.
⚠️ Precaution after marking The queen can fly. Some beekeepers practice clippage (wing cut) to avoid swarming too far.
