The faux-tigne: a danger to your hives!
The false name is a moth parasitizing hives, with two main types:
-
Large : Galleria mellonella
-
Small : Achroia grisella
These insects feed on wax and pollencausing significant damage to hives. If a colony is strong, it can remove the larvae of the faux-tigne naturally. However, bad practices can lead to the appearance of silk-lined galleries, creating a network that obstructs the circulation of bees. This may indicate that the colony is low or dead.
In the case of galleries, it is crucial to clean frames and group the remaining bees to ensure their survival.
